LONG STORY

I have been into the arts since I was a kid. I discovered writing and photography in high school but decided to keep those as hobbies while pursuing a career in the creative industries.

My first job was at an architectural office at a time when there were no smartphones, only fax machines and landlines.

While it would have been wonderful to have found my calling at the age of 20, I was restless and decided to spread my wings and go abroad. I moved to the UK and studied for a BA in fashion there, with a stint in Milan, Italy.

During my studies, I got super excited about marketing, and soon after my graduation, I began working at a great PR and communications agency in London, promoting design and the arts.

After nearly nine years abroad, I moved back to Helsinki and first continued working in communications for a while until I went freelance in 2011.

Because I had been away for so long, I saw Helsinki differently. I started a blog titled Creating Helsinki, interviewing and photographing local creatives. In 2016, the concept turned into a book.

As an artist, I am a bit of a late bloomer. I am about to graduate as a visual artist from the Arts Academy in Turku, and I’m putting together my first shows. My works are often lens-based, but I incorporate other elements, such as painting and sculpture, into them.

While making art, I continue to work on commissions as a writer and photographer. I am not so restless anymore. I can imagine myself doing this — art, writing, and photography — for the rest of my life. It never gets dull.
